This jurisdictional event for regulators in New South Wales will bring together leaders and practitioners from disciplines including policy making, licencing, education and engagement, impact assessment, compliance and enforcement and everything in between.
This event will mark the launch of AELERT’s Regulatory Capture Toolkit in NSW, this new guidance material is a resource designed to help agencies identify, assess, and mitigate the risks of regulatory capture—ensuring integrity and independence in decision-making.
The agenda will also include case studies on building regulatory priorities in a number of areas such as resource management, water, environment protection, and biodiversity and protected areas, and how this flows into a practical workshop on outcomes performance reporting.Â

- Welcome and AELERT Network Update
- Regulatory Capture Toolkit Launch – Understanding regulatory capture, risks, impacts, controls and how to mitigate it at the agency, team, and individual level.
- NSW peer agency updates from commonwealth, state, and local government agencies (agency remit, current challenges, regulatory priorities / interagency programs, what’s coming up in 2025/26)
- Building Regulatory Priorities & Outcomes Performance Reporting Workshop – How to develop, implement, and communicate meaningful outcomes and leading the regulatory narrative
- Breakout sessions:
- Perspectives on impact assessment from assessors and proponents/consultants
- AI and technology in guiding regulatory strategy and priorities
