AELERT Regulators Gathering – Aotearoa New Zealand

February 27 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm NZDT

AELERT Regulators Gathering – Aotearoa New Zealand

Gather together with your fellow New Zealand regulators and put the learnings from the AELERT-INECE 2024 Global Summit into action!

We are better together especially during times of change. Growing together starts with connections that turns into collaboration and innovation to get better. This is a networking event for all regulators across Aotearoa that will be a step towards better connection, collaboration and action that will grow NZ practitioners and your agencies in 2025 and beyond.

This in-person event is free for AELERT members and non-members. It follows on from the recent AELERT-INECE 2024 Global Summit and consolidates the outcomes and learnings into cross cutting topics most relevant to all NZ regulators, environmental and non-environmental regulators.

This event is for frontline regulators, regulatory support officers, people managers and senior regulatory leaders. Attending this event will give you the opportunity to connect with your peers, exchange stories, learn from each other and share practical approaches that support your regulatory practice.

The event will enable you to:

  • connect to your peers and understand their remit, challenges and work programs,
  • measure and grow staff capabilities with limited resources,
  • set up a risk-based approach and your regulatory priorities,
  • set performance outcomes that tells the full story of value and benefit to the public we serve and the people we regulate, and
  • uphold regulatory integrity during times of change by managing regulatory capture risks.

As we are better together!

Program

  • Karakia & mihi whakatau – welcome then mana whenua perspectives
  • AELERT network update – including AELERT – INECE Global Summit and what’s next
  • Aotearoa Regulatory agencies update (get to know your peers) from central, regional and district agencies covering agency remit; priorities; current and emerging challenges; and opportunities to collaborate and innovate in 2025. Also including a central government update on the Aotearoa regulatory reform framework!
  • Building staff competencies and confidence with limited resources – Sharing stories and using practical frameworks and tools to measure where you are at and what you should focus on. This session will cover innovative and easy ways to measure and build practitioner capability in the areas that align with your agency priorities without solely relying on training courses. If you don’t measure it, you can’t manage it. Grow with confidence!
  • Practical risk-based approaches when setting your regulatory priorities (less is more!) – particularly important during times of change and uncertainty. Practitioner stories on integrating First Peoples’ spiritual and cultural values when setting regulatory direction and focus. Setting intelligence led priorities, taking charge of the agenda leading to better focus, better results and higher trust and confidence levels in the regulator.
  • Setting outcomes performance reporting – being clear about why we do what we do. This session will share practical ways to measure outcomes including preventative regulatory activities, followed by how to proactively report results across government and to the public so your value and benefits are broadly understood and realised.
  • Regulatory capture –  insights from a recent analysis on addressing regulatory capture and upholding integrity of the whole regulatory system. What you and your agency can do to manage regulatory capture risks – doing your bit!
