We’re recruiting dedicated regulators in every jurisdiction to help guide, shape and champion Australasia’s peak environmental regulatory network.
AELERT is establishing a new Jurisdictional Steering Committee (JSC), and we’re inviting regulators from across the region to join it. This is your chance to help chart the course of the largest environmental regulatory professional network in the Asia Pacific.
Why now?
AELERT is now a registered not-for-profit organisation. Our leadership and governance mechanisms are being reviewed to make sure we stay agile, informed and highly effective, delivering value to every member now and into the future.
The JSC will harness the energy and passion of our members to keep our products, services and activities fit for purpose. Representatives will also drive the promotion of AELERT in their jurisdictions, operating in conjunction with, and providing advice to, the National Council.
About the opportunity
The Committee will bring together representatives from all Australian states and territories, the Commonwealth, Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, helping shape the network from the ground up.
As your jurisdiction’s representative, you’ll play a vital role in guiding and championing the network. You’ll gain access to a large professional network and the chance to build relationships with a level of insight you can’t get anywhere else. It strengthens your substantive role too, because the networks and insight you build here augment your own programs of work.
We’re looking for AELERT members with the drive to engage with and represent regulators in their jurisdiction: people who are energetic, show initiative and want to expand their professional networks. If you see the value in the AELERT network and want to champion it where you work, this opportunity is for you.
What you’ll do:
- Actively promote AELERT and our events, products and membership within your jurisdiction, including within your own agency.
- Feed the CEO, Academic-Practitioner Working Group and National Council regular intelligence on the regulatory landscape in your jurisdiction, and relay AELERT updates back to your networks.
- Facilitate introductions between AELERT and senior agency leaders and practitioners to advance our mission.
- Contribute to and endorse AELERT’s conference program, masterclass series and themes for other events and webinars.
- Share thought leadership and research from AELERT’s Practitioner Fellows, academic partners and network partners on emerging issues in regulatory practice.
Why join?
- Recognition within the Asia Pacific’s most exciting environmental regulatory professional network.
- Early access to AELERT research outputs, capability products and strategic intelligence before they reach the broader membership.
- Direct access to the AELERT CEO and leadership team, and a real say in the direction of the network.
- Meaningful contribution to a community that connects Australasian environmental regulators with world-leading academics, international regulatory networks and the practitioners doing the most interesting work in the region.
- A front-row position as AELERT expands its program and reach.
Appointment process

Appointments run for two years with the option to renew. The first cohort of representatives will be appointed in August 2026.
