Expression of Interest: Conference Technical Committee

Apr 2, 2026

Help shape the direction, content and impact of our upcoming conference

We are seeking Expressions of Interest to join the conference technical committee for the upcoming AELERT 2026 Conference. The technical committee plays a strategic, advisory role, supporting the AELERT team to shape a high‑quality, relevant and impactful conference program aligned to the overarching conference themes.

Participating on the technical committee offers a unique professional development opportunity. You’ll help shape the direction and quality of a major conference, gain insight into strategic program design and speaker engagement, and play a role in shaping the outcomes and key learnings that follow.

About the conference

The AELERT 2026 Conference – Future ready regulation will be held from 6–8 October 2026 at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, Naarm (Melbourne), bringing together regulatory leaders, practitioners and researchers from across Australasia.

The conference will explore how regulators can strengthen and future‑proof regulatory systems through five core theme areas:

  • Digital innovation and emerging technologies, including the transformative role of AI, data, cyber security and digital tools
  • Leading change across industries, navigating transitions in sunset sectors and supporting emerging industries
  • Public trust, ethics and accountability, strengthening transparency, ethical governance and community confidence
  • Sustainability and long‑term resilience, integrating climate readiness, environmental stewardship and ESG principles
  • Collaborative and cross‑sector leadership, fostering multidisciplinary, cross‑jurisdictional approaches to complex regulatory challenges

As planning for the conference program progresses, AELERT is seeking member interest to support program development through participation on the Conference Technical Committee.

About your role in the technical committee

Technical committee members work closely with the AELERT team to provide subject matter insight, strategic input and access to professional networks. This is not an administrative or logistical role, it is an expert advisory and implementation‑focused contribution to the program. You may be required to input up to 1-2 hours per fortnight at various points during the event planning and delivery process.

Key activities include:

  • Reviewing and shaping the conference program and sessions
  • Identifying and engaging potential speakers as needed
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on submitted abstracts for alignment with conference themes and topics
  • Assist engaging with speakers to refine sessions and key messages as needed
  • Contributing light support during and after the conference to inform guidance material and the post‑conference report

The event management team manage event logistics, administration, marketing and initial speaker coordination once confirmed.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking regulatory practitioners or academic researchers who:

  • Have relevant technical, policy, regulatory or industry expertise and/or insights aligned to the conference themes
  • Are implementation‑focused and willing to undertake the responsibilities outlined above
  • Bring strong professional networks across government, industry, academia or the regulatory community
  • Are collaborative, outcome‑oriented and able to work to timeframes

It would also be advantageous to have the ability to broker connections across:

  • Government and regulatory agencies
  • Local government
  • Private sector practitioners
  • Academic and research institutions

How to apply

To express your interest, please send a brief note to the AELERT Leadership Team at aelert@sa.gov.au at your earliest convenience outlining:

  • Your background and current role
  • Your industry or sector experience in line with the conference themes
  • Any current regulatory, policy or leadership responsibilities

Expressions of interest are open now to begin conference program review in April, and subsequently review submitted abstracts and further session development from May – August.
