Transcript

I’m so excited that Australia is hosting the world’s first Global Nature Positive Summit. The Summit will bring together leaders and experts to get agreement on the next steps to turbocharge investment and reporting on nature.

The Australian Government is doing more than ever to make our economy nature positive. Building on our launch of Australia’s Nature Positive Plan, we’re committed to stopping nature’s decline. That means zero new extinctions, and stopping biodiversity loss by protecting and conserving 30 percent of Australia’s land and marine areas by 2030.

We’re already making really good progress. We’re setting up our national independent Environment Protection Agency. We’re fixing our environmental laws so they do what they’re meant to do. We’re setting up a Nature Repair Market. We’re investing $550 million to better protect and restore our native threatened plants and animals. And we’re driving Australia’s transition to a circular economy.

We’re working to deliver a future of net zero emissions.

We’re partnering with First Nations Peoples as important custodians of our lands, and waters.

The Global Nature Positive Summit brings all of that work together. It helps Australia set the global agenda for a nature positive future.

We’re building on the great work that businesses and land managers are already doing, in investing in nature. We are all committed to progressing the goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Everyday individuals and communities are doing things to better protect our environment. And your efforts are making a huge difference.

The Australian Government is committed to better protection for our environment and supporting business to consider their dependencies and impact on nature. It’s this collective action that will help us achieve a nature positive future.

And of course, your role in that is absolutely critical.
