This week, AELERT has launched its newest Community of Practice network group – Regulatory Researchers & Practitioners – bringing together academics and practicing regulatory professionals to create space for new opportunities between research and implementation of regulatory activities.
The Regulatory Researchers & Practitioners CoP is a product of the AELERT-INECE 2024 Global Summit founded from the shared ideas of regulatory researchers and practitioners in the biodiversity and wildlife Crime workshop and the climate change and air quality workshop to find mutually beneficial opportunities to develop new ideas and innovative solutions based on the real conditions facing regulators in the field.
This network group is a productive and professional hub that connects regulatory research to action and implementation through collaboration between academic and regulatory professionals who represent all regulatory functions from policy and law making to impact assessment, engagement, intelligence, auditing, and law enforcement. It also includes all regulatory subjects both environmental and non-environmental, such as regulating the energy transition and climate change.
Chairing the group will be Chris McElwain, Teaching Fellow in UNSW’s Faculty of Law & Justice, and Dr Sarah Wright, Senior Lecturer within the University of Wollongong’s School of Law.
The aim of this new group is to create a mechanism for regulatory agencies and reserachers to co-design innovative solutions to contemporary issues regulators are facing in the field.
